PLAYER PROFILE
The Leicester scouts spotted Cross playing locally for Enderby Town when they signed him in May 1959 and he turned pro with the Foxes just over a year later. It was a fine spot, with Cross going on to become one of the club's most consistent players in its history. He featured in 599 senior games for the club and fell just short of Adam Black's club record for total league appearances. In total, Cross gave 16 years service to the club. As a 15-year-old he netted on his reserve team debut, scoring against Brighton, and then scored on his senior side debut against Birmingham City in April 1961. Despite early signs that he'd be an out-and-out goalscorer, Cross was a player who could play in a variety of positions, something that was soon spotted and a reason why he netted just 29 Football League goals. His ability to play all over the park also had an impact on his international career, according to some. He featured for England at U23 level but was ignored at senior level. The swapping of Cross and Frank McLintock was an often-used tactic by Matt Gillies, City manager of the time, but soon Cross settled as a centre-back. He went on to reach two FA Cup Finals and two League Cup Finals with City, as well as collecting a Second Division Championship medal. He had plenty of energy and enthusiasm, something not usually expected from a defender, and something that City fans of the time remember well. As well as football, Cross was also a keen cricketer, something he often played in the summer months with no football going on. However, following his farewell from Filbert Street, Cross signed for Brighton and Hove Albion and then Preston North End, continuing to produce top-class defensive performances even in his latter years. He played in the lower leagues towards the end of his footballing career, playing for Enderby Town and Lincoln City before even trying his hand as player-manager of Hinckley Athletic. After his career Cross made the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 1993 when he was jailed for the misuse of Post Office funds, and on his release went on to become involved in the knitware trade and as a caretaker at Loughborough College.

PLAYER PROFILE
London-born Chandler is remembered as City's greatest-ever striker and his goals tally is set to be unrivalled for some time. The lethal forward scored 259 league goals in 393 appearances for the Foxes, whilst also adding another 14 goals in 26 appearances in the FA Cup. His goalscoring feat was simply phenomenal and it started in the summer of 1923 when Leicester signed the striker from Queens Park Rangers, where he was mostly a support player. Peter Hodge was the manager who brought him north to Leicestershire and it proved one of, if not the, best signings in the club's history. He showed his abilities straight away by scoring five goals in two pre-season friendlies but couldn't find the back of the net in his debut against Hull City in August of that first season. Still, it didn't take long before the goals started flowing and his important to the team was highlighted by him going on to play in 118 matches on the spin following his debut against the Tigers. Interestingly, his goals record didn't include any from the penalty spot - Chandler only took two penalties during his time at the club and they were both saved, but he did score a wide variety of goals, with his head, foot and both short and long distance. Chandler soon started to smash and equal club records at an impressive rate, equalling the club's goalscoring record in a season in 1925 before going on to beat it twice thereafter. He also equalled the number of goals scored in a game when he hit six in a 10-0 thrashing of Portsmouth. His tally of 17 hat-tricks is also a club record. Unbelievably, Chandler didn't get international honours with England. When the England scouts did come to watch him play he scored twice, but suffered a serious injury which kept him out of action and thus England selection at the time. He did feature for a Football League side, however, when they took on the Scottish League and also took part in an FA squad that toured South Africa, scoring at a rate of over two goals per game. The goal-getter played longer than most and is still the oldest player ever to play for City and score for them. His career didn't end in Leicestershire, however, as Chandler had one last club in him with Notts County, where he moved to in June 1935. He added six goals to his career tally but returned to City on the coaching staff just a year later, managing the Colts team and having various other roles on the backroom staff.

Sheffield United Football Club is a professional association football club based in the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. The team competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football. The football club was formed in 1889 as an offshoot of Sheffield United Cricket Club, and are nicknamed The Blades due to Sheffield's history of steel production.[1] The club have played their home games at Bramall Lane since their formation in 1889. Bramall Lane is currently an all-seater ground with a capacity of 32,702.
Sheffield United won the original First Division in 1898 and the FA Cup in 1899, 1902, 1915 and 1925. They were beaten finalists in the FA Cup in 1901 and 1936, and reached the semi-finals in 1961, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2014. They reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in 2003 and 2015.
For most of the club's history they have played in red and white striped shirts with black shorts. Their closest rivals are Sheffield Wednesday, with whom they contest the Steel City derby.

The colourful character of Dave Bassett who had most recently had a short, unsuccessful spell as manager of Watford. It was to prove an astute appointment as although he could not prevent relegation in his first season he built a solid, hard working team on a small budget and won back to back promotions, returning the club to the top flight and achieving regular mid-table finishes With the formation of the Premier League United's old financial problems and willingness to sell star players without replacing them meant the side eventually succumbed to relegation and when an immediate return was not forthcoming Basset was sacked in December 1995. Joined Leicester city in 2001 after the sacking of Peter Taylor , but couldnt prevent the foxes slipping into the championship 2002-03
Micky Adams was appointed leicester city boss in 2002 after Dave Bassett became football director at leicester city he guided the foxes back to the premier league in 2003 , but relegation in 2003-04 and a terrible start the following season would see him resign, became sheffield united boss .
Micky Adams then became the third full-time manager of the season in 2010-11 for sheffield united, and oversaw a disastrous run of results which saw United relegated and Adams was sacked after only six months in charge.
